Sri Lanka’s former capital city, Colombo is easily the largest metropolis in the country. It is still the commercial and entertainment hub with many corporate buildings, restaurants, shopping malls, spas, hotels and nightclubs. If you want to have an active urban nightlife and do a spot of shopping then Colombo is your place.

One thing unique you’re bound to find in the heart of Colombo are the tree-lined main streets adding to the idea that this truly is a tropical paradise. Stand under one of the towering streets in the afternoon sun and you’re bound to cool off.
Colombo also has a massive park named after both Queen Victoria and Sri Lankan princes Vihara Maha Devi, and is situation along the island’s Western Coastline boasting some of the world’s best city sunsets every evening. Sit on an open terrace, sip Margaritas and watch the golden-orange sky dance tones of blue and purple as night begins to fall.

Come night, Colombo’s nightlife boasts a diverse mix of things from experimental fusion bands to original rock and metal outfits, and underground electronic dance music DJs from night clubs to rooftops to beaches all around the town and its periphery. A number of cultural performances and top class theatre is also an on-going occurrence in Colombo. If dining out is what you prefer, the city is also never short of top class options including Japanese, Thai, Arabian, Chinese, Italian and traditional Sri Lankan among others.

Wake up to a late morning in Colombo and roam one of the many art galleries in town after a long, lazy poolside brunch or breakfast in bed – but of course with the windows open so you can take in the view. Nibble on toast and eggs or let your palate venture on to some spicy coconut sambol with string hoppers. Milk rice – a thick creamy rice dish cooked in coconut milk with curry is a definite recommendation from us! If you fancy a spot of shopping step into some of our designer boutiques and artifact stores – you are bound to find something unique to take back home with you. If you’re brave, venture the chaos of the Pettah market and do you shopping above the noise of hundreds of street hawkers trying to sell you things you didn’t realize you wanted. Colombo is your best stop-over when coming in to the island and heading back out.
